Step 1: change your seasonal decorations
Change in textiles and colour does wonders for the mood of your home.
- Blankets: Swap thin, light plaids for thick, soft blankets. Nothing more inviting than a pile of cosy fleece blankets on the sofa.
- Warm accents: Add warm accents. Think pumpkins, dried autumn branches or cushions in warm shades such as terracotta, mustard yellow or deep red.
- Tip from TRIXXO: Look in your own home first. A quick rearrangement and getting rid of too-light, summery items is sometimes all it takes!
Step 2: organise your autumn stuff
Now that rain and cold are back in the country, it's no luxury to bring out your boots, scarves and umbrellas again.
- Fixed place: Create a fixed place in your hallway or utility room for boots, coats and accessories.
- Smart storage: Use baskets or bins to keep everything neat and immediately accessible. This way, you avoid lying around scarves and always know where that one glove has gone.
Step 3: autumn cleaning
Autumn is the perfect time for a thorough cleaning. Focus on the spots that have the most impact on your indoor environment.
- Windows: Give extra attention to windows (inside and outside), rugs and vents. Clean windows let in more daylight, which is crucial in the dark months.
- Great cleaning: Wash windows and window sills, pat or clean your rugs and don't forget to dust vents.
- Release: Use this cleaning as an opportunity to declutter. Take out those items you no longer use and donate them. Less clutter means less dust and more peace in the house!
Step 4: other scents
The smell of your home has a huge impact on the atmosphere. Swap those fresh, summer scents for something warm and spicy.
- Fresh air: Open the windows wide for a while and let the crisp, fresh autumn air blow through your home.
- Warm scents: Switch to autumn scents such as cinnamon, apple or pumpkin seed. Use scented candles, essential oils in a diffuser or make a simple stovetop simmer with orange slices, cloves and cinnamon sticks.
Pro Tip: Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil (think clove or cedarwood) to the water you brush with for a lovely warm scent throughout the house.
