What is changing for service vouchers in Flanders?
Until now, users had to request a refund themselves if they no longer wished to use valid service vouchers. From 1 June 2026, the process becomes much simpler.
When a service voucher expires, the remaining amount will automatically be transferred to the bank account registered in your Citizen Profile.
How does the automatic refund work?
The refund is processed automatically once the service voucher has expired.
Important information:
- The measure applies to service vouchers expiring on or after 1 June 2026.
- To receive the automatic refund, your bank account number must be correctly registered in your Citizen Profile.
- You no longer need to submit a separate refund request.
- Check that your account details are up to date to avoid delays.
Why are expired service vouchers refunded automically?
The Flemish Government wants to make the service voucher system more user-friendly. Many users were unaware of the refund procedure or forgot to submit their request in time.
With automatic refunds :
- Administrative burdens are reduced.
- Refunds are processed more quickly.
- Users are less likely to lose money due to missed procedures.
- The service voucher system becomes more customer-friendly.
Does this also apply in Brussles and Wallonia?
No. At present, this measure only applies in Flanders. More info here.
- Brussels: In Brussels, users must still submit a refund request themselves according to the existing procedure.
- Wallonia: There is currently no automatic refund system for expired service vouchers in Wallonia either. Users must continue to follow the existing refund rules.

What should you do to receive your refund?
Although the refund process is automatic, it is important to verify a few details:
- Check your bank account number : Make sure the correct bank account is linked to your Citizen Profile.
- Keep your information up to date: Have your contact details changed? Update them promptly to avoid any issues with your refund.
- Use your service vouchers on time: An automatic refund is convenient, but service vouchers are primarily intended to pay for household help. Be sure to check the expiration dates of your vouchers regularly.
