Tip 1 – Drink enough water
Sounds obvious, right? But did you know it’s better to drink lukewarm water instead of ice-cold? Ice-cold drinks actually make your body work harder to get back to normal temperature. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day, preferably a little every 20 minutes. Big gulps all at once? Not a good idea.
Heads-up: alcohol and energy drinks dehydrate and increase the risk of overheating.
Tip 2 – Go for light meals
Sorry, but a portion of fries at lunch isn’t the best choice. Heavy meals raise your body temperature. Better to grab a salad, some fruit or something light. And hey — a little ice cream afterwards? Absolutely allowed!
Tip 3 – Wear light clothing when possible
Choose breathable fabrics like cotton in light colours. Working outside? Don’t forget a cap or hat for sun protection.
Tip 4 – Discuss your schedule
Talk to your supervisor to see if it’s possible to do the heaviest tasks in the morning and save the lighter work for the afternoon.
Tip 5 – Keep an eye on your teammates
Notice a colleague feeling unwell, confused, or sweating a lot? Let someone know immediately! Suspecting heatstroke? Do this:
- Move them to a cool place
- Raise their legs
- Give water (if conscious)
- Unconscious? Call 112
Tip 6 – Cool down regularly
Splash cool water on your face, neck and wrists from time to time. It really helps to bring your temperature down.
Tip 7 – Working in a cold area (fridge or freezer)?
Don’t head straight from the cold into the heat. Give your body time to adjust to normal indoor temperature before stepping outside.
Tip 8 – Enjoy after your shift
Because let’s be honest… good weather also means good times. After work, grab a cold drink, relax and enjoy it. You’ve earned it!
